Even in Australia

(Or Quito, as the Case may be.)

This image pretty much sums up my day, which started with me tripping on the uneven Quito sidewalks and smashing my face into the pavement.  The day got worse from there.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Just another day at the zoo...

Okay, not the usual "zoo" we experience, but rather a literal one.  Despite rain and clouds in the early morning, we took a chance and went (with Ximena) to the zoo in Guayllabamba, about an hour outside of the city.  The kids desperately needed to get out, and the event was just laid back enough for the adults, too.

We got a preview of Galapagos turtles:

And a bear with "spectacles":

A stunning Tigrillo:

A miffed monkey (we saw many, many monkeys):

Colorful tropical birds:

And what Andean zoo would be complete w/o llamas begging for carrots?

Afterwards, we went for a late lunch and Samuel did his usual building with empty water bottles:

Carnival ends tonight, so I am back to the archives tomorrow.  The kids don't go back to school until Monday.

I hope that all of you back in New England are faring okay after the big blizzard!

Here and Now

Creativity:
(also known as mess)

Flexibilty:
(also known as Pretzel Girl)

Anger:

(also known as sibling rivalry)

Obsession:
(also known as first haul)

I guess this means that we are, for all intents and purposes, settled into life in Quito.
