This Week in My Kitchen: Changing Seasons

(Joining Heather at Beauty that Moves for the kitchen blog hop)

The past couple of weeks have been such a blur of activity--and only some of it in the kitchen. I am back to cooking and baking mainly on weekends now that the academic year has started.  But, along with that has been the transition from summer kitchen to fall kitchen, including the return of several things I love: candle light every night, soups, baked goodies...and the first home made chai of the year!

I also started a "First Sunday Brunch" this month, trying to get in the habit of socializing away from work, on a regular basis.  Funny how even a few confirmations leads to a full and joyful house for a few hours of relaxed dining and chatting while kids hang out and play.  The cat was most curious about the process of getting ready (even though she hid--as always--the entire time that friends were over).

And another sign of changing seasons in my kitchen is Anya's Hanukkah wish list making its appearance on the refrigerator door.  She's a girl who knows her mind, right down to what she wants for home-made present night.

What are the signs of changing seasons in your kitchen these days?

  1. I love your kitchen! and your kitty! Is that basil in a vase? How genius!

Hmm, signs of changing seasons in my kitchen are I'm sure to get some winter squash and apples when I see them! and I set out the apples for a day or so -- they're so pretty and fragrant...

  3. What a tidy kitchen! First Sunday Brunch sounds like a wonderful idea. There are a few folks who we don't see enough and it would be a wonderful way to stay in touch!

    1. Yes, exactly why I decided to try doing it. Once a month seemed the most manageable yet still regular. Hope it works out for you!

  4. I popped over today from "Beaty that moves" and love all the sharing of kitchen love as the seasons change. Anya's list is so sweet and I would be happy to send you a care package of art supplies to surprise her with. I am an artist and the gift of art is everlasting and to cultivate that passion for creating is life changing.
I am inspired to host a Sunday Brunch once Soccer season ends and we find our schedules a little less around soccer.

  5. I can't imagine the fall and winter months without candle-lit dinners. They seem to go hand in hand for me. There is only one problem with this blog hop- it always makes me so hungry! Everything looks so yummy. ;) The brunch sounds like a wonderful idea...sometimes the thought of planning something like that is so overwhelming, but the payoff is more than worth it and it is often not as hard as it appears in our heads.

  6. Having trouble replying to people on my own blog! I'll try via just a regular comment:
PVE: what a generous offer! Sorry for not replying earlier--just so busy this week. I would not expect you to do all that, but: if you have suggestions for art supplies, I would *love* to hear them.

Joy: I am so with you on candle-lit dinners.
