In My Kitchen: Summer in Swing

(Again joining Heather on her kitchen blog hop)

I feel like I avoid the kitchen with the heat that's been with us in New England in the past few weeks, but I suppose that I have been fairly busy here nevertheless!
  • Baking whenever the weather cools down a little--including finally making coffee spice cake
  • So happy that the farmers' market is back again--and getting to make strawberry-honey jam because of it
  • Salads, salads, more salads.  With lettuce from the garden, with pasta and peanut sauce, with more of those luscious strawberries...
  • And, if I had to go to a family party (I love them, they are just way too many for my comfort zone), I decided that I should at least make strawberry shortcake so that my Dad would be there in spirit.
  • More manageably, my brother Kevin came for dinner one night while out east from CA.  It's always so lovely to see him and catch up in person.  In addition to a fine (vegan) meal, we got to play with Anya's Lego city and introduce him to the new Dr. Who via "Blink" (you know, lure in with the best).
  • Finally: playing around with recipes from a new cookbook (always fun)
Not quite as hot or humid today, and tomorrow will be in the mid 70s!  Time to use the oven again while we can.

How is summer playing out in your kitchen?

    1. The pasta/noodle dish is one that I got from Heather's Whole Food Kitchen workshop last fall--bunch of cucumber, purple cabbage, and cilantro...and a peanut dressing. It's one of those dishes that I can eat all year round!

  3. Mmmm...this all looks scrumptious. Especially the noodles with what I think is red cabbage...are they soba? I've just noticed the ingredients in your reply to the last comments. That's helpful. I have a good peanut dressing recipe. The baked banana slices looks good too. I'm just going to check out your recipe book the cover is enticing me with those colourful carrots.
Enjoy your oven time while it lasts.

    1. Good to have you stop by, Debby! The noodles in the picture are not soba (I wasn't sure that my brother Kevin would like them), but I do usually use soba for this dish. For the cookbook: you could check out her blog first--there are lots of delicious recipes there, and that will give you an idea if you'd really be interested!

    2. Thanks for stopping by, Debby! The humidity is down, and I think I'm blowing off work for baking today.

Noodle dish: yes, I often make it with soba (though the picture is just regular whole wheat pasta b/c I wasn't sure my brother would like soba). And on the cookbook: checkout the ohsheglows blog first, where there are lots of recipes. That will give you a sens of whether you'd like the cookbook (there is some overlap, but I use her blog enough that it just felt like compensating her for what she's offered so freely up til now).
